Right in the middle of Cyprus down on the south coast, Limassol is the islands main maritime and industrial area. Situated between the two main airports of Paphos and Larnaca it is also a very popular tourist area. This is also where the Cyprus wine industry is based and the annual wine festival here, held in September, is well worth attending if you get the chance. If you really want to experience a full on carnival complete with masquerades, huge parades and balls then the ten day Carnival here in February is for you. All year round this is the city to visit for restaurants and shopping. For particularly fine restaurants in Cyprus and a bit of culture you should stroll down to the old port or up to the castle with its beautiful gardens.
