How To Replace A Shower Head ?

Is your old shower head not working properly? Changing a shower head is not a difficult task and most of the homeowners can tackle it and finish the work in just 30 minutes of time. You can really enjoy the bath with new enhanced shower head. So now we will see how we can change a shower head.

You need some pluming tools for setting up new shower head like adjustable pliers, plumbers tape, masking tape, a new shower head, large towel or a piece of cardboard. Purchase these tools if you don’t have, so that you can easily complete your task.

Purchase a shower head of your choice from different kind of showers available in the market like eco-friendly, water-limiting nozzles and spa type showers. Turn off the water supply to the existing shower head by the faucet and also shut-off the main water supply valve, normally located in the wall behind the shower only.

Remove the old shower head using a pair of channel pliers. For doing this, rotate the existing shower head connections counter-clockwise until the unit is free from the water connector.

After removing the old shower head, clean up all the waste materials from threads of the shower stem. Ensure that no residual tape pieces are there on the shower stem to have a tight seal during the installation of a new shower head. You may find gunk around the threaded pipe in the wall after removing old shower head. So clean these threads using a damp paper towel.

Now you need to apply tape around the thread to have a watertight seal. Teflon Tape is best in this regard. Apply the tape is same direction in which you will fix new shower head otherwise the tape could bunch up or tear while fixing the new shower head and may cause a leak.

When the shower stem is properly taped, attach the new shower head by rotating the fitting onto the threaded pipe and turning it in clockwise direction until the unit is firmly secured. Make sure that you do not over tighten it.

At last just turn on the water supply to the shower and test all of the unit’s features and if it is working fine, your new shower is ready and your work is over.
